Manage clients

Add, edit and delete the clients you invoice, and set a credit limit.

Clients are the people and businesses you send invoices and quotes to. Find them in Billing → Clients.

Add a client

Open Billing → Clients and select Add client.

Choose Individual or Business.

Fill in their details:

  • Name — or, for a business, the Contact name and Business name
  • Email
  • Phone (optional)
  • Billing address (optional) — printed on their invoices
  • Notes (optional) — anything to remember about this client, for your team only

Select Add client.

Client limits

The Free package includes a limited number of clients. When you reach it, the Add client button offers an upgrade instead. See Packages and billing.

Edit a client

  1. Open Billing → Clients and select the client.
  2. Select Edit, make your changes, and save.

Delete a client

  1. Open Billing → Clients and select the client.
  2. Select the bin icon next to Edit.
  3. Check the name, then select Delete client.

Deleting a client can't be undone.

"This client has invoices…" — why a client can't be deleted

A client who has any invoices, quotes or a recurring invoice schedule can't be deleted. Removing them would leave those documents addressed to nobody — and invoices are part of your financial records.

The message tells you exactly what's in the way, for example "This client has 3 invoices and 1 quote". To delete the client, first delete those documents or change them to another client.

Deleting invoices removes them from your records and reports. If a client has real invoices, it's usually better to keep the client.

Set a credit limit

On a client's page, the Credit limit card shows how much of their limit is used by unpaid invoices.

  • Enter an amount and save to set a limit.
  • When unpaid invoices go over it, the card warns you to hold further credit sales.
  • Set it to 0 to remove the limit.

Good to know

  • Can't see Edit or the bin icon? Your role doesn't include changing or deleting clients. Ask your business owner or admin.
