Barcode scanners
Add products at the till with a USB or Bluetooth scanner, or with your device's camera.
Scanning adds a product to the cart in one step. You can use a handheld scanner, or the camera on a phone or tablet.
Before you start: barcodes on products
The till finds a product when the scanned code matches its barcode or SKU exactly. Add barcodes to your products in Stock → Products — the product form can scan a barcode with the camera too.
USB or Bluetooth scanner
Connect the scanner to your computer or tablet. Most scanners work straight away — they act like a keyboard that types the code and presses Enter.
Open Workspace → Settings → Printers & scanner and check Barcode scanner is switched on.
Open Sell → Point of Sale and scan a product. You don't need to click anywhere first.
A message confirms each scan — "Added Coca-Cola 50cl" — or explains the problem.
If the cursor is in a box — the search box, a quantity or the discount — the till doesn't listen for the scanner. Scanning into the search box still works: the code is typed there and Enter adds the product.
Scan with the camera
At the Point of Sale, select the camera icon beside the search box.
Allow the camera when your browser asks.
Hold the barcode in view. When it's read, the product is added.
Camera scanning reads the barcodes printed on retail goods (EAN, UPC, Code 128, Code 39, ITF) and QR codes. It uses the browser's built-in scanning, which works best in Chrome on Android phones and tablets. On browsers that can't scan, or if you don't allow the camera, the window lets you type the code instead.
If a scan doesn't add the product

Good to know
- Scanning the same item again adds one more to the cart.
- Scanning uses the store's stock, so you can't scan in more than the store has.
