Give a discount
Take an amount off a whole sale at the till, or put a product on offer for a set time.
There are two kinds of discount: one a cashier gives on a single sale, and one you set on a product so it's cheaper for everyone.
Discount a sale at the till
Add the products to the cart.
In the cart, type the amount to take off in Discount. It's an amount of money off the whole sale, not a percentage.
The Tax and Total update. Select Charge as usual.
Tax is worked out after the discount:
Subtotal 200, discount 20, tax 15%
Tax = (200 − 20) × 15% = 27
Total = 200 − 20 + 27 = 207The discount can't be more than the subtotal. It's shown on the receipt and in the end-of-day report.
Who can discount
Only people whose role includes approving at the Point of Sale see the Discount box. Everyone else sees the cart without it. If you need to give discounts, ask your business owner or admin to change your role in Workspace → Users & roles.
Put a product on offer
For a sale price that applies to every customer — a weekend promotion, clearing old stock:
Open the product in Stock → Products.
Switch on Discount.
Choose the Type — Percentage or Fixed amount — and enter the Value.
Optionally set Starts and Ends. With neither, the discount runs until you switch it off.
Save the product.
While the offer is running, the till charges the reduced price and the product grid shows the original price crossed out beside it.
Good to know
- Tax rate comes from Workspace → Settings → Discount & tax. Cashiers can't change it at the till.
- Resuming a parked sale keeps its discount — see Park and resume a sale.
- Product offers are retail only. Wholesale lines use the wholesale discount instead — see Retail and wholesale prices.
