Open the register
Start the day at the till — check the cash carried forward and add a float.
Before anyone can sell, the store's register has to be open. Opening it starts a register session: a record of the cash in the drawer, every sale and refund, until you close it at end of day.
Enterprise package
Point of Sale, Sales and Returns are part of the Enterprise package. See Packages and billing.
Open the register
Open Sell → Point of Sale.
If your business has more than one store and you aren't assigned to one, confirm where you're selling: check the store name and select Start selling at (store).
The bar at the top says the register is closed and shows the Balance b/f — the cash left in the drawer at the last close. Select Open register.
In Additional float, enter any extra cash you're putting in the drawer now, for change. Leave it at 0 if you're not adding any.
Select Open register. The product screen appears and you can start selling.
What "balance brought forward" means
When the register was last closed, someone counted the drawer and may have paid some of it out to the bank. Whatever stayed in the drawer is carried forward to the next session:
Balance b/f = cash counted at the last close − cash paid out at that closeYou don't type this number — it comes from the last close at this store. If the last close was short, you'll see a note saying by how much, with the reason that was given. The counted amount is what carries forward, not the amount that was expected.
While the register is open
The bar at the top of the Point of Sale shows when the register was opened, the balance brought forward, the float added, the number and total of sales, and the cash in drawer so far.
Good to know
- One register per store. Each store has its own drawer and its own session. If someone already opened it, you'll see "This store's register is already open."
- Yesterday's register is still open? You'll see "End of day pending for …". Close that session first — see End of day — then open today's.
- The Point of Sale fills the screen. The menu is hidden while you sell. Select Exit at the top to go back to the dashboard.
