Retail and wholesale prices

Give trade customers a wholesale price from a minimum quantity, and switch the till between retail and wholesale.

If you sell to trade customers as well as the public, each product can have a wholesale price that applies once they buy enough.

Turn on wholesale pricing

Open Workspace → Settings and expand Store settings.

Switch on Sell at wholesale prices and save.

This applies to every store — a trade price that held at one branch but not another would be a pricing mistake. Turning it off hides the wholesale fields and the till switch, but doesn't erase prices you've already set.

Set a product's wholesale price

Open the product in Stock → Products and fill in the Wholesale section:

  • Wholesale price — the trade price per unit.
  • Minimum quantity — how many must be bought before the trade price applies. Leave it at 0 or 1 for the trade price from the first unit.
  • Wholesale discount and Discount value (optional) — a percentage or fixed amount off the wholesale price.
  • Allow price switch at the POS — leave on so this product can be sold at wholesale. Switch it off to always charge retail.

Sell at wholesale

At the Point of Sale, use the Retail / Wholesale switch above the products.

  • Switching reprices everything already in the cart, not just what you add next.
  • A line gets the wholesale price only when the product has one, allows the price switch, and the quantity has reached its minimum. Otherwise that line stays at the retail price.
  • Change a quantity and the price follows: go up to the minimum and the line drops to the wholesale price; go back below it and the line returns to retail.
  • The product grid shows the price for one unit. A product whose minimum is more than 1 shows its retail price there, and moves to wholesale in the cart once you reach the minimum.

Worked example

A crate of drinks has a retail price of 120, a wholesale price of 100 and a minimum quantity of 5. With the till on Wholesale:

3 crates → below the minimum → 3 × 120 = 360
5 crates → minimum reached → 5 × 100 = 500

Good to know

  • Retail discounts don't stack with wholesale. A product's dated retail discount applies to retail sales only. Wholesale lines use the wholesale price and its own wholesale discount, so trade customers aren't discounted twice.
  • The server checks every price. A sale is refused if a line's price doesn't match the product's retail or wholesale price for that quantity, so prices can't be edited at the counter.
